CHILD SPONSORSHIP
We believe that all children are created uniquely and therefore deserve the opportunity to receive an education that best suits their individual talents, strengths and giftings. The African Hearts Child Sponsorship Program aims to empower each child according to their personal needs and encourage them in these. We believe this is what sets our Child Sponsorship Program apart from other Child Sponsorship Programs.
OUR PROJECTS
African Hearts was birthed in 2001 from one man with one donated trumpet to many various projects that address the different needs of the Ugandan people. As we have progressively sought to provide solutions to the issues that our country faces, it has led African Hearts to expand and assist in many other facets of Ugandan life. We are always grateful to hear the many testimonies from our beneficiaries of how African Hearts has helped shape, empower and improve their lives. Our projects are the backbone of our work and we LOVE what we do!
GET INVOLVED
There are many ways to support African Hearts. We are seeking vibrant and faithful people to join our international team as African Hearts Advocates. If you have a passion for helping vulnerable children and families in Uganda and/or skills that could assist our organisation as a volunteer and you are willing to donate your time to help we’d love to hear from you. Additionally, we are always seeking sponsors for our children who are part of the African Hearts Child Sponsorship Program. Financial support of our projects along with donations of musical instruments for our bands are also needed. Hummingbird House -
New Girls Project 2019
Girls who find themselves in the slums or grow up in the slums are often exploited sexually from as young as 12 years old. From the age of 12 they become a potential target. Many are ‘lured’ to a life of prostitution with the ‘reward’ that they may be able to have somewhere to sleep and occasionally get something to eat. There can be as many as 8 girls in one room and they are often used for sex in any way the client sees fit. They have no freedom of choice. They are simply told where and when to meet the client. They share the rent for the room and assist each other in any way they can. Girls as young as 13 and 14 may find themselves pregnant and needing to not only provide for themselves, but for their babies as well. At Hummingbird House, we are endeavouring to establish both a corrective and preventative way forward. Firstly, preventative in that we hope to assist the 12 year olds to develop different skills rather than even beginning a life of prostitution, and secondly corrective in that the young girls who have already been lured and may have small children can be counselled and undergo training to help them identify with different ways to generate income.
Village of Hope
Stage 2 2018-2021
This project was initiated to combat the problem of children running away from rural villages to the streets of Kampala in search of a better life. African Hearts acquired 50 acres to grow food for all our projects. We are currently in Stage 2, partnering with Heifer Organisation to create a farming and dairy industry in this community, a quality Junior School and extensive health facility.
Slum Outreach and Homes
Ongoing Project
African Hearts operate a Slum Outreach Program that was birthed from one man with one donated trumpet, in the heart of the Kisenyi Slum. This slum is thought to be one of Africa’s largest slums and is home to over 500 children; many of them boys. African Hearts supply over 120 boys with daily meals, basic education, emergency medical needs, soccer and boxing training through our Slum Sports Academy twice a week. When African Hearts rescue boys, they live at our residential Homes throughout their rehabilitation process. Children who reside in these homes are provided with shelter, food, love, education, and the other necessities of life, along with the vital skills they need to re-integrate into society.
